"At the end of the Beatles' song 'A Day in the Life,' an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, was recorded by Paul McCartney for his Shetland sheepdog."

Need Help With Your Dog?

We receive dozens of requests each week for help and advice on Shar Pei health problems and information on surrendering dogs. Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to these requests and can only point you back to this website where we have gathered extensive online resources to assist you. Please visit the following sections if you need help with your dog:

Questions About Surrendering Your Dog

If you're considering surrendering your dog, this section is for you. First off, please note that most rescues (including ours) will not accept owner surrenders. We already have our hands full dealing with strays and impounded animals in shelters that need our rescue help. Unless you originally adopted your dog through our rescue, it is your responsibility to find a home for your pet, not a rescue group. Nonetheless, we can assist you by steering you toward many online resources for help.
Please remember that your pets are living creatures, capable of fear, love, pain, depression, loneliness, grief and joy. They should never be considered disposable property; they are members of your family. We hope that any consideration of surrendering your dog is extremely difficult for you, and that you will try everything you can before you make that decision.
If you can find a solution to your problem, that means one less animal needing rescue, and both you and your pet will be happier. Please try to resolve your problem before giving up your dog. Otherwise, it might very well cost your pet his or her life.
Most problems with your dog can be solved if you give them a chance. It's vital that you realize that your situation is not unique, and that you are not alone. Others have solved these very same problems before you. Following are links to valuable online resources to help you avoid making a painful and regretful mistake.

Help With Finding A New Home

There are many more surrendered pets than there are homes. With patience and planning, you may be able to find a good home but be very careful. There are many, many evil people willing to take in your pet, only to later sell it at a flea market or to a research lab, use it for food or bait for fighting dogs, or engage in ritual torture and murder.
NEVER run a Free To Good Home ad. At the very least, charge a fee to deter the riff raff.
Do not release your pet "somewhere in the woods". The fear, abuse, suffering and death they will encounter is blatant animal cruelty, pure and simple. Better to take them to your vet for a quick death.
There is a very high probability that surrendering your pet to a shelter will ultimately result in your pet's death.
If your problem cannot be resolved, here are links to things to think about and information that may help you find a good home for your pet:
